Upcoming class for the Paper Niche - Faux Bois Calendar

Mmmm... woodgrain. I {heart} woodgrain. No matter what form it takes! lol In this class we'll take the plain chipboard frame that comes in this calendar kit from Harmonie, and using a woodgrain stamp to create our own woodgrain! BooYah!! This frame is fairly large. {The layout portion on top measures a little larger than 8"x10."} We'll be going over a few blending techniques, and some tips for overlapping your image stamp {in this case, our woodgrain}

And even though I featured photos of some of my recent craft projects, this would be a GREAT layout to feature a "lovely" photo of some of the ladies in you family/life. :)
We'll also be talking about some stamping basics - each month the dates and days are stamped. We'll also cover a basic run-down on different types of inks and stamps. ;)
Keep an eye on the PaperNiche emails and website for the pricing details and date!!

Ahem... Where have you been?!

The short answer? Living! lol

Long story short, we had a busy weekend with soccer, grocery shopping, date night, workouts, treat making, church, birthday party, treat eating, Superbowl party...

Spent today catching up around here, and am now ready to drop for the night! I'll be back with a vengence tomorrow, though! I've got projects ready and waiting in the wings for your inspiration!! :)

Just a quick and easy idea for those Valentine's celebrations coming up! This would be so simple to do for classmates at school, and would be just a touch of the handmade, instead of those prepackaged Valentines. :)

The directions and template can be found here! I used my latest mini kit to create mine!

It's also the "free with purchase" kit at FPD for it's closing month. Yes, unfortunately, since the store is closing, I'll no longer be selling my designs. But to go out with a bang, everything's 40% off for the month of February! You may see me again in the future, but as of this moment, I'll be taking a bit of a break! :)

A REALLY cool thing for your iphone...

Ok. So I know there's lots of hype out there over the iphone, but I swear, we've had our's for a little over a year now, and I have a tough time picturing my life without mine. I carry my schedule on the calendar, all of my contacts are available at the touch of a button, I have constant access to the web, and a great source of entertainment for our boys at my fingertips if I need it. {I carry a rotation of a couple of their favorite tv shows, so if the event that I need them entertained, I've got it... not often, but hey. It's life! Great for that wait in the PO line. :P}

Anyway, I wanted to take a minute to talk about one of the awesome apps that I discovered on Saturday. I was sitting in B&N flipping through a stack of Graphic Design/Photoshop themed magazines, and stumbled upon an ad for Neenah Paper. I'm not about to recommend their product or anything, 'cause I've never used it and haven't the faintest idea how good it is at this point, but I did check out the free app that they advertised... It basically generates color palettes for you - either based on a photo, their particular papers, Dewey Attiributes or by you dialing in RGB/CMYK values. I've tried out several of these methods, and have to say... it's one of the most fun things I've ever played with! I can't wait to use it to integrate into designing! There's also a fuller version available online which I haven't registered for yet, so I can't say whether it's free or requires some kind of membership.

Ok. So I'm an art geek. At least I know this. ^_^

I know I posted that I would be putting together another Valentine idea for today, but I'm thinking it's gonna happen more like tomorrow. I've got a few things that I need to take care of this afternoon and won't get a chance to play until this evening! I'll be sure to post it tomorrow, though!

Happy Hump Day! WooHoo! We're halfway to the weekend!

Inspired by Warhol...
Have a lovely Tuesday!

Inspire Me Monday...

{Found here}

YUM. Totally inspiring... I struggle with getting the boys to pick birthday themes that aren't related to a commercial character... :P One of these days...

{Found here}

And it's a deliciously rainy day here today. I've got a few projects going. Lots of laundry and house cleaning and homeschooling... Trying to gather my thoughts and plans for the week! General ideas for meals, blog posts, projects, etc... Will be posting another Valentine idea/project Wednesday!

Yum. Chocolate and Bananas. Studio Space. And Red Velvet

First let me start with this week's recipe...

What could be better with bananas than chocolate? In my humble opinion, the only way to eat them. This recipe is modified from the one my mom made for us growing up! Enjoy!
Mom’s Banana Bread

½ c. {1 stick} unsalted butter, softened
1 c. granulated sugar

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar together well. I like to whip them up nice and fluffy.

1 egg

Add and mix well.

3-4 over-ripe bananas, mashed

The amount is depending on how big they are…if they're fairly large, I stick with 3... I put these on a plate a smoosh them lightly. Add to the above mixture and stir until blended.

2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda

Add to wet ingredients and mix lightly. It’s important when you’re baking to do the extra mixing early, with the sugar, butter and eggs. They like to have the air whipped into them – it’ll make your end product lighter, and fluffier. But – once you add the flour, you generally want to stay away from too much mixing. It’ll have the opposite effect and make your final product tough. Yuck.

1 c. nuts…. or chocolate chips! {WooHoo!}

Stir into batter with a spoon.

I know the average person adds nuts to banana bread, but, we’re NO nut people around here. Has potentially deadly consequences for our little guy. No offense to those of you who love them! In fact, as a child, we would spread peanut butter on our slices of banana bread! I still miss that.

Anyway. Back to directions…

Pour batter into a buttered bread pan. {Or muffin tins – these make great muffins, too!} Pop into your preheated oven and bake for 1 hour – 1 hour 15 minutes. The bread is ready when an inserted toothpick comes out moist, and not gooey. {muffins will only take about 20 minutes per batch.}

Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes. Then run a knife around the edges and turn out onto a cooling rack. Now perform evasive maneuvers, or grab a slice as soon as possible, because this will disappear if you leave it where it is! :D

My guilty pleasure from yesterday. I was at a Starbucks Cafe in the afternoon... I need to make these at home again. YUM. {If you haven't figured it out yet - I've got a crazy sweet tooth! :)}
Working away on a few of these! :) Can't wait to show you what I have in mind...
And this is me + my little craftsy space.
I haven't taken many self portraits lately. It's usually something I love to do, don't know why I haven't been doing it... And yes, I'm wearing sneaker slides with this. HeeHee.
