1 Photo, 2 photos, 3 photos, more.

How do you scrap? Is scrapping a way of sort of filing/archiving your photos, or is it a way for you to highlight your favorites?

I know this is a little bit of an issue right now in the industry. I'm always seeing letters to the editor requesting more multi-photo layouts. When I posted a 1 photo layout on a message board, it ended up starting a discussion. This is my take.

I do a little bit of everything. Recently, I've noticed myself doing single photo layouts. Why? I think that's just the mode I'm in right now. Telling the story. The fascinating little details of our everyday life. I take many, many more photos than I'd ever be able to scrap (approx. 4500 since I got my digital camera Christmas 2005), so with that said, why should I feel guilty/obligated to even try? Why not move with the flow, and enjoy it as a hobby? I love choosing my favorites and then putting the rest in a plain photo album. :) I scrapbook because I love to. It's fun for me. The choosing of the photos, papers, embellishments, stamps, so many things and putting them together to tell a little tidbit of a story. Sometimes profound and deep, other times funny or sweet.

The above is an example of one of my multis. I just couldn't narrow them down at the time, and it's still one of my all time favorite layouts. It's one of the first I ever made back in the fall of 2005.

So my answer: do what feels right. choose one, or many. Use different sizes, or the same. Variety. that's what keeps things interesting and fun. A great source for some more reading on the topic The Big Picture by Stacy Julian. I read it just when I was starting to discover all those expectations/rules of scrapping. Since I was new to the hobby, I wasn't really following any set formula, and then I started to worry a little that maybe I wasn't doing it right? She helped completely relieve my worry and inspired me to just do what I love.

I just wanted to say that I love your comments regarding the number of photos on a page. I have customers and friends saying all the time that "it's a waste" to just have 1 or 2 photos on a page. I've decided that this is MY hobby and I'm going to do it to have fun. AND I'm still preserving memories in an album---just not ALL of them are in a handmade scrapbook. Thank you!!!
